Ali Abunimah,
The Electronic Intifada, 25 January 2007

Israel routinely lies about what it does...  The Israeli occupation forces later claimed to have removed 44 of the hundreds of obstacles in fulfillment of Olmert's pledge. In fact, the Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz reported on January 22,
the Israeli army "admitted on Sunday that the 44 dirt obstacles it said had been removed from around
West Bank villages did not actually exist."

Hillary Clinton and the Israel Lobby

By Joshua Frank

George W. Bush's position on Iran is "disturbing" and "dangerous," reads a position paper written in late 2005 by American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). One year ago the Bush administration accepted a Russian proposal to allow Iran to continue to develop nuclear energy under Russian supervision. Needless to say, AIPAC wasn't the least bit happy about the compromise.

Can a surge of U.S. and Iraqi troops into Baghdad accomplish what last summer's Operation Forward Together failed to achieve? including the disengagement from Gaza and the building of a wall
across the West Bank, but I also offered a few suggestions
about where Israel might head next.

Ma'an - A Palestinian patient has died on Thursday evening at the Huwwara checkpoint, south of the city of Nablus in the north of the West Bank. Israeli soldiers stationed at the barrier refused to let him pass, as the car which carried him had no permit.

   Nothing but Iraq

Translated from the Arabic by Shareah Taleghani

I remember as-Sayyab screaming into the Gulf in vain:
Iraq, Iraq. Nothing but Iraq.
And nothing but an echo replies
I remember as-Sayyab, in that Sumerian space
A woman triumphed over the sterility of mist
She bequeathed to us earth and exile . . .
For poetry is born in Iraq,
So be Iraqi to become a poet, my friend.>>>>>

800-year-old Um An-Nasr Mosque in Beit Hanoun Destroyed by the Israeli Forces, a report by Yousef Alhelou

By Yousef Alhelou

Safsaf - Gaza : The An-Nasr mosque in Beit Hanoun, which was completely destroyed by the Israeli shelling during the invasion of Beit Hanoun, is a historic mosque that was built 800 years ago.The imam of the mosque, Sheikh Shihda Abu Zreiq, said on Friday that the occupation has ruined “the house of God", which was built in the year 637 according to the Islamic calendar, following the “Um An-Nasr" battle between the armies of Sultan Mahmoud Qutob and the Crusaders' armies in the area between Gaza City and Asqalan (today's Ashkelon). The Muslim armies triumphed in the battle. The imam said that the Israeli occupation army did not intend to kill Palestinian fighters in particular. They also killed children, women and old people. The sheikh called on the Arab and Islamic world to learn the lessons of these incidents.
President Abbas visited Beit Hanoun including the destroyed mosque and he promised the people there to rebuild it again. While we were looking at the destroyed mosque, a man said to me, I have prayed in this mosque for 31 years and now I'm going to miss it.
