Khan Younis - Ma'an - Secretary of the Fatah movement, Farouq Quaddomi, on Monday sent a message to the secretary generals of the Palestinian resistance factions in which he discussed the current crisis and proposed solutions.

In his message, Qaddomi said: "We are before difficult choices and so we have to choose the lesser of evils."

He added, "As leaders of the Palestinian resistance, we have become responsible for the life of our people who suffer deprivation and blockade. By the virtue of our steadfastness and sacrifices, we have been able to resist the most fierce occupation of our time. Consequently, after these past months, we have to find a way out of our crisis to avoid being blamed for a future what may weaken our resistance and iron will."

"In the past, we had warned," said Qaddomi, "that the calling for premature elections will create divisions and lead to a state of chaos and domestic fighting. That is what Israel and the United States are planning. They could be leading us to a state where one Palestinian party thinks he is victorious and another believes he is losing. They never want us out of this crisis."

Qaddomi suggested the following proposals:

• Firstly, national unity government according to the agenda of the prisoners' accord and with amendments agreed on by the participants.

• Secondly, a mixed government including all the factions under an umbrella similar to that of the Oslo agreements.

• Thirdly, a government of impartial Palestinian figures acceptable to all parties.

He added that the Hamas can abstain to take part in this government if they want and stay as a majority opposition.
