Haaretz/Italian TV: Israel has been using an experimental lethal weapon in Gaza

Date: 11 / 10 / 2006

Gaza - Ma'an - The Israeli daily newspaper 'Haaretz' reported on Wednesday that Italian TV will broadcast a report which points to the possibility that the Israeli army used an experimental weapon in the Gaza Strip that causes amputation and severe burning. The Israeli paper said the weapon is almost the same as an American weapon which causes a "powerful and lethal blast". The investigative team is the same team who exposed the US military's use of phosphorous bombs in Fallouja in Iraq.

Doctors in Gaza gave the Italian team eyewitness accounts of the severe wounds they had seen. According to 'Haaretz', Dr. Habas al-Wahid, head of the emergency room at the Shuhada al-Aqsa hospital in Deir Al Balah told the reporters that the legs of the injured were sliced from their bodies "as if a saw was used to cut through the bone." The newspaper also says that there were signs of heat and burns near the point of the amputation, but no signs that the dismemberment was caused by metal fragments.

There have been several reports over recent months that Israel has been using new, particularly lethal weapons in Gaza.
