Rim Banna sings Palestinian love songs on her new CD
Palestinian artist Rim Banna is now releasing "Seasons of Violet", her second solo CD on the KKV label. Her previous release, "Mirrors of My Soul" (2005), has been well-received around the globe, opening doors for Rim Banna to the USA, Canada, Great Britain, Australia, India, the Arabic world and Scandinavia.
Her collaboration with KKV started with "Lullabies from the Axis of Evil" (2004). The impression she made on producer Erik Hillestad when she sang a lullaby for him in her house in Nazareth had such an impact that it landed her a recording contract.
Her many fans have been eagerly awaiting her new record, and now it is finally here. She performs with the same band, featuring Eivind Aarseth (guitar), Gjermund Silset (bass), Rune Arnesen (drums) and David Wallumrød (keyboards), in addition to her husband Leonid Aleixenco (acoustic guitar). This time Rim gives us a selection of new Palestinian love songs. The title, "Seasons of Violet", reflects the lilac, a violet flower which in Palestine is a symbol of love. All the songs have been composed by Rim together with Leonid Aleixenco, while Rim's mother has written some of the lyrics.

Den palestinske artisten Rim Banna utgir nå ”Seasons of Violet”, sin andre
solo-cd på Kirkelig Kulturverksted. Den forrige, ”Mirrors of my soul” (2005) er
spredt over store deler av verden og har blitt en døråpner for Rim Banna til
bl.a. USA, Canada, Storbritannia, Australia, India, den Arabiske verden og
Skandinavia.
Samarbeidet med KKV begynte med ”Lullabies from the Axis of Evil” (2004).
Inntrykket hun gjorde på produsenten Erik Hillestad da hun sang en voggesang for
ham hjemme i sin egen leilighet i Nasaret var sterkt nok til at det ble
platekontrakt av det.
Nå venter mange på ny plate, og med det samme bandet, som består av Eivind
Aarseth (gitar), Gjermund Silseth (bass), Rune Arnesen (trommer) og David
Wallumrød (keyboards) foruten ektemannen Leonid Aleixenco (akkustisk gitar), har
Rim spilt inn et knippe palestinske, nyskrevne kjærlighetssanger. Albumet har
fått tittelen ”Seasons of Violet”, etter et dikt av Rims mor som handler om den
fiolette blomsten lilac som i Palestina er et kjærlighetssymbol. Rims mor
Zuhaira Sabbagh har skrevet flere av tekstene til platen, slik hun også gjorde
det til ”Mirrors of my soul”. Melodiene har Rim komponert i samarbeid med Leonid
Aleixenco.
I en tid da det palestinske folk er så stigmatisert og forbundet med konflikt
ønsker Rim Banna å fokusere på den positive kraften i kjærlighetslyrikk som
henter sin metaforikk og sin klangbunn i den rike arabiske tradisjonen. Hun
ønsker også å være en palestinsk singer-songwriter av egen samtid, og ikke en
utstillingsfigur for arabisk etnisitet. Derfor ønsker hun et kraftfullt band av
vestlig kaliber og vil ikke overøse musikken sin med arabiske instrumenter.
Første anledning til å høre Rim Banna live med fullt band blir på
lanseringskonsert i Kulturkirken Jakob den 13.mars. CD’en er i butikkene fra
releasedagen 26.februar
