Awda – oriental jazz
with the Adel Salameh Trio

Adel Salameh, oud
Dimitri Varelopoulos, guitar
Didier Petit, cello
The Awda Trio is the result of a meeting between three virtuosi from three different musical universes: Adel Salameh from Palestine, Dimitri Varelopoulos from Greece, and Didier Petit from France. Together they explore and develop new musical paths, from Mediterranean Oriental music to Jazz, in a blend of older and contemporary styles, seeking new modes of expression.

Adel Salameh was born in Nablus in Palestine. He was a student of two of the major Middle East lute masters, Palestinian Khaled Sadouq and Munir Bashir from Iraq. Salameh has since established a reputation as one the best oud players in the world.
Luteplayer, guitarist, singer and composer Dimitris Varelopoulos was born in Athens, Greece. He is a member of the "Checkmate in two flats" band, and he also works as a producer and arranger. Dimitri Varepoulos is currently working as professor in the Department of Musicology at the University of Macedonia in Greece.
Cellist Didier Petit represents the European improvisatory music movement . He began as a student at the Conservatory, even at the age of 6. At the age of  twelve, he listened to the Michel Portal and Bernard Lubat Duo for the first time, which became the determining factor for his interest in jazz and related music forms. Didier Petit caused a sensation at the 2003 Vossa Jazz Festival in the company of Norwegian percussionist Terje Isungset!
